What is a domestic violence restraining order?

Domestic violence is defined by the Family Code as abuse perpetrated against a spouse, former spouse, cohabitant, dating relationship, a child of a party, or any other blood relative.  A domestic violence restraining order is a court order prohibiting contact, physically and verbally, by the abuser.  If a person violates the restraining order, you can call the police, or go to court for contempt.

As part of the domestic violence restraining order, the court has jurisdiction to make temporary orders regarding child custody and visitation.  Often time people forget that children need the most protection.

If you or a loved one is a victim of domestic violence, please contact our Rancho Cucamonga family law office for a free consultation.  Domestic violence is a serious issue and our Rancho Cucamonga family law attorneys would like to sit down with you and discuss your options.  Getting a domestic violence restraining order is the first step to protect you and your loved ones.
